Care for the flock that God has entrusted to you. Watch over it willingly, not grudgingly-not for what you will get out of it, but because you are eager to serve God. Don’t lord it over the people assigned to your care, but lead them by your own good example. And when the Great Shepherd appears, you will receive a crown of never-ending glory and honour. 1 Peter 5:2-4
As the Captain or Coach of your team, you are in the spotlight which means your team is looking to you not just for guidance in all aspects of the game. So what kind of leader are you going to be?
It’s easy to just focus on the winning, but I would encourage you to strive for so much more than winning this season. As this verse in Peter states, don’t lead in a way that benefits you but lead in a way that gives glory and honour to God! Push yourself to be the kind of leader that God knows you can be. Creating a culture within your team that cultivates encouragement, positive attitudes and care towards others.
Write out the type of leader you want to be as a mission statement and identify some areas that will require some extra attention to be successful. (ie. watch my tongue, encourage others, put others first)
